Cannot see 5GHz networks

Cannot see 5GHz Wireless Networks

If you think you should be able to see a 5GHz network but it does not show in your wifi network list most times it is because your computer is not capable of 5GHz.

Getting a new machine does not guarantee it is capable of 5GHz.

You MUST have a device that is broadcasting a 5GHZ signal such a an ac 5GHz router.

Before spending hours troubleshooting take a few minutes make sure your adapter is capable of seeing 5GHz networks

Please select your operating system below

Windows

Step 1: Press the Windows key + R on your Keyboard

Step 2: Type cmd or powershell and click OK

Step 3: Type "netsh wlan show drivers" in the command prompt and press Enter

Step 4: Look for the Radio types supported (you may need to scroll up along the right

NOTE: If the radio type shows 802.11a or 802.11ac then the network adapter supports 5Ghz band (I have seen n support it but very very rare.. so when trying to connect to and ac router (5ghz) assume ac)
